Senate Operations Manual

The Vancouver Island University Education Council was formed in 1995 in response to new legislation contained in Bill 22 (the British Columbia College and Institute Amendment Act, 1994).

The Senate of Vancouver Island University is the successor to the Education Council of Malaspina University-College, and is constituted under the University Act as amended by Bill 34. The Senate was fully populated in January of 2009.

The amended University Act assigns an expanded role in governance to the Senate:

• as the prime source of policies and procedures concerning educational matters
• as an advisor to inform decisions made by the Vancouver Island University Board

The operations manual will aid the Senate support person in the daily activities of Senate support.
